Over the years many have left a legacy to bccs. A supporter, Ian, wrote to us to tell us why he has chosen to remember bccs in his will.
‘When we draw up a will we are doing all we can to protect, safeguard and shield our family that we will inevitably leave behind. Providing for your children and grandchildren (and extended family maybe) will always be uppermost in our minds. And rightly so! You will have worked hard, no doubt, to build up your estate, and leaving a will ensures that your children are safeguarded to the best of your ability. But as a Catholic living in Essex, I realised that I have an ‘extended extended family’, if such a term exists! By this I mean the thousands of children that the Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society have helped and counselled in the past, and the thousands that they will hopefully continue to support in the future. I say hopefully because there are no guarantees in life, and much as I love bccs and all they do for Essex and East London school children, the charity receives no Government or Local Authority funding and its future cannot be taken for granted. I’m not able to forecast the future, but I do know with some certainty that the number of children that the charity is asked to help will not decrease; I also know that without support of Essex-based Catholics, the charity will struggle for funds. And if the charity struggles, then children that I don’t know, and will probably never meet, will suffer too. So that is why I have arranged my affairs such that a small legacy in favour of bccs has been included in my will. I think it is the very least I can do to help the worthiest cause I know and I wish all the staff and supporters at bccs continued strength, love and support in all that they do, both now and in the future.
