Advent is a particularly busy time for us as we go about our work supporting families who may find that the season of Christmas is undermined by family tensions, bereavement or financial pressure.

Our aim during Advent is to try to focus attention on those families for whom Christmas may not be a particularly happy or joyful time and we are able to do this thanks to the support of parishes throughout the Diocese of Brentwood.

As families stand in front of their parish crib during the weeks of Advent and Christmastide, we are asking them to take a minute to think about the work we are doing supporting children, young people and their families.

Every donation made at the crib directly helps our work and we are truly grateful for this assistance.

If you would like to donate to our Diocesan Crib Appeal, you can choose to do so using any of the following methods:

As we enter the season of Lent, a time for reflection, compassion, and giving, we invite you to join us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families facing mental health challenges.

BCCS is committed to helping children and young people through challenging emotional and psychological experiences. During this Lent, your support can enable us to deliver essential services, counselling, resources, and direct assistance to those who need it most.

LUKE'S STORY

Luke’s mum reached out to us, worried that her son was struggling with anxiety. He was avoiding school, using delaying tactics at bedtime, and constantly checking on her whereabouts through his phone. His distress grew if she was somewhere he hadn’t been told about.

We met with both parents to understand their family situation and needs. After working closely with Luke, we discovered his anxiety was rooted in his attachment to his mum and a deep fear that something might happen to her.

With two sessions focused on supporting Mum’s own worries, followed by eight sessions with Luke, we helped him build confidence and resilience. Over time, he began to attend school more easily and sleep peacefully, free from constant worry.

Thanks to the support provided, Mum no longer worries every morning about whether Luke will go to school. She can now go out to work and enjoy socialising with friends, knowing her son is calmer and more secure.

This story highlights how targeted support can transform children’s lives, bring peace of mind to children, young people and families; and how your generosity makes these stories of hope and change possible.

We would be grateful for your support, whether through a donation or active involvement. Your kindness can bring hope, reassurance, and healing to children facing challenging circumstances.
